A property document portal

Set strategy with the CEOs to turn an internal document cost into a product. When strategy shifted, re-scoped and still shipped; it grew into one of NSW’s leading document providers.

01  The problem
Innovation Lead · Oct 2021 – Feb 2025

Buildcert, and its technical arm Digitise, sourced property documents for their own work. It was a cost the business carried every day, at a time when it was growing fast, from about 300 to 400 staff.

02  What I did

I set business strategy alongside the CEOs of both companies to turn that cost into a product, covering the technology, innovation and creative sides of the work as their first creative hire.

The first plan was a full property intelligence platform. When the company’s strategy shifted, I re-scoped to the part that could stand on its own: a portal for property documents, from titles and development applications to strata records, flood reports and sewer diagrams. Then we shipped it.

03  The result

The portal grew into one of NSW’s leading property document providers, turning an internal cost into a product the market pays for.

04  What it taught me

“Scope to what ships. A smaller product that exists beats a bigger one that doesn’t.”
